Hana offers industry-standard security features and has a dedicated support team at hand to help keep you safe. However, users must be aware of their security when managing their cryptocurrency holdings.

Step-by step guide to use Hana securely:

  1. Never share your secret recovery phrase or private keys! The Hana wallet team will never ask for these and they are never required to assist in your support issue. The phrase and/or keys are used to restore your wallet in case you lose access. Exposing these to another individual will give them full control of the wallet.

  2. Use a strong password for Hana, avoiding information that is publicly known about you.

  3. For mobile devices, enable biometric authentication by going to the hamburger menu > Settings > Advanced and selecting the relevant toggle.

  4. Never interact with unsolicited tokens / NFTs. Scammers send "airdropped" tokens, hoping a user will visit their site and interact with their Dapp which then withdraws funds from a wallet.

  5. Never interact with individuals in community discussion groups or direct messages from them. Scammers will pose as support agents from wallet teams, projects or the community in order to gain access to your funds.

  6. Always check the details when confirming transactions. This will detail any balance changes expected in the transaction and can be cancelled if they aren’t as you expect.

  7. Only visit reputable Dapps and sites. New sites that may be offering unrealistic opportunities are at a high risk for phishing scams.

We urge you not to proceed if a situation arises that concerns you on any of the above points. Please reach out via our support system (in the bottom right corner) and we can assist you.

Additional suggestions:

  1. Use two wallets, the first for regular use and interacting with Dapps, the second to store your funds. This second wallet will only be used to fund the first wallet for transactions. You can find guidance on making additional Hana wallets in Creating additional Hana wallets.

  2. Use a hardware wallet such as a Ledger Nano. These devices provide secure storage of your private keys and can be used alongside Hana to sign your transactions. Find guidance on using Ledger with Hana in Using a Ledger device with Hana.
