Want to bring wallets from other applications with you on Hana? Follow the guide below to migrate externally created wallets to be managed within Hana.

Step-by-step guide to migrate external wallets to Hana

  1. Before you begin, you will need a Private Key or Keystore file that has been exported from your source application of choice.

  2. Enter on the hamburger menu (☰) located in the upper-right corner of Hana.

  3. From the menu, select the ‘add a wallet’ option to add a wallet to your Hana account.

  4. Select the ‘Restore a private key’ option in the menu that pops up.

  5. On the following menu, select either ‘Private key’ or ‘Keystore file’ depending on the backup that you have available.

    1. If you are restoring a private key you will be asked to enter the private key backup for your wallet, enter this into the box provided and continue to load your wallet into Hana.

    2. If you are restoring a keystore file, a page will open allowing you to upload the file. Upload and then continue. Hana will then ask for the password to this file (you will have set this when it was created). Enter the password and then continue to load your wallet into Hana.

  6. Your externally created wallet has now been successfully migrated to Hana!

  7. Retain the backup files you used for migration to recover these wallets in the future. As this wallet was not created within your Hana account, your Hana seed phrase will not recover it in the future. Read our ‘Tips for Secure Backup’ section below for suggestions on how to store this information.

Tips for Secure Backup:

  • Offline Storage: Always store your backup information offline. Avoid keeping it on your computer or cloud storage.

  • Multiple Copies: Create multiple copies of your backup and store them in different secure locations.

  • Security: Never share your seed phrase, keystore file, or private key with anyone. Treat these as highly sensitive information.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your Hana Wallet is backed up and your assets are protected. Remember, a proper backup strategy is essential for the security of your digital assets. For more guidance on secure best practices, read our important security tips for new users.
